Spirits of Mt. Vernon
If you haven't been stopped in, you are missing out! The ladies here know their wines and have made this shop a bit like home. You don't just buy a bottle, you hang out and enjoy a great atmosphere
Just one of the most wonderful "tasteful" places in the our neighborhood!
The ladies there really know their wines. Very friendly and helpful.
Spirits is a wonderful corner shop that really captures the "spirit" of Mount Vernon (see what I did there?)
It's not a huge place, but the folks who run it are incredibly friendly and great at offering recommendations. And on top of that, they usually have their giant and adorable dog in the shop with them!
The beer selection is small compared to the wine offerings, but rest assured you'll find what you need for just about any occasion. As far as the harder stuff goes, they've got you covered as well. It's a perfect spot for this part of town that helps Mount Vernon to keep it classy!
I like wine...but I'm no connseiuer. How thankful this chick is that "Spirits" sits happily in Mt. Vernon. For those like me, Spirits hosts a wine tasting every Friday. Spirits owner Vikki, actually hand pours the tastings and spills much eeded tea so those not as educated in the world of wine ...come out on top. Then once the tasting concludes, you can buy a glass of an old favorite or new friend, strike up a conversation ... and see where the evening takes you...
PS... ITS OPEN SUNDAYS!!!!
Love this place. I don't know too much about wine, so when my fiance and I went in to find some good bottles we definitely needed help. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and willing to help with our particular issues: we're not particularly affluent, and our wine tastes are almost completely divergent. They were able to help us identify three bottles within our price range that fit both of our tastes, and even gave us some surprises! Plus they were willing to special-order pretty much anything. I will definitely be going here in the future for all of my wine needs.
My go to wine shop. I have yet to get a bottle that I didn't love! I even went there on Thanksgiving and they were OPEN. They are always really nice. They have great recommendations.
There are some good bargain priced wines here as well.
Great selection for the budget conscious to the connoi$$eur.
It's a peaceful place to spend a few hours on their window seat with bottle as you watch friends, neighbors and strangers walk by.
I was in the area visiting a friend and didn't want to show up empty handed so I ran into Spirits of Mt. Vernon to grab my normal bottle of riesling and go on about my Merry way... When I walked in I was inspired by the wood shelves and beautiful display of spirits to try something different! The guy behind the register was very helpful in suggesting wines I would like based on other wines I've drank before.. He also went the extra mile of helping me find something that was already chilled since I was headed right to a friends. Next time I'm anywhere in the area I will be sure to pop in for one of their wine tasting, to thank them for the wonderful wine they helped me pick out or just to pick up another bottle of something new!
If I had to say one bad thing it would be the parking.. Paying for parking in order to run in the store for 10 minutes suck, but it's not their fault.
I love this store i come here every time i'm in town and Vicky is super!
I am the President of NAWBO-Baltimore. We have had a wine tasting event for the last few years here at the store. What a great place to have a networking event! Everyone always has a blast, the wines are great and the atmosphere is perfect. If you are looking for a new place to have a group meeting and fun- try this out!
This is one of the places that makes Mount Vernon just a bit more interesting and fun.
Fantastic little wine store with a nice owner. They had a nice little vibe tonight with a number of patrons sipping wine to a singer song writer. In both visits I have gone in for...gasp...beer. A quick purchase for the hotel or airbnb. The beer is relegated to the back of the store...Like a second class citizen. It's ok though as they have a limited number of nice choices...more locals than not. Some cans of Brewers Art, Public Works ipa, heavy seas, flying dog, and some Poe beers.
Oh yeah and the do have a lot more nice wines too.
Give these locals some love.
I'm a big fan of this place - it's a great addition to Mount Vernon. They have great wine, which you can buy by the bottle or the glass. One some nights they also have excellent live music (very nice acoustic singer/ songwriter stuff). It's a great place to get a glass of wine, sit back, and enjoy the music. The owners are also very friendly - they always make me feel welcome.
This place is fabulous! It is the quintessential locals place, so if you are new to Mount Vernon, this is where you come to meet people! They serve a creatively delicious selection of wines by the glass. The best part is that if you really like what you are drinking, you can take a case home! There is often music, and always lots of fun to be had!
Great little place, with ample selection and very helpful staff. They steered me to an Spanish Enate chardonnay that was delicious, and which we wouldn't have found without their help. The place is beautifully decorated, the staff is knowledgeable and the wine is terrific. We didn't use their tasting facilities but they seemed great too.
I love Spirits of Mt. Vernon! Everyone there is super helpful and friendly. They go out of their way to try and find a wine that suits your taste. You can also purchase wine by the glass which is pretty awesome. There is even a beer and liquor selection so really there's something for everyone. From time to time they do wine tastings and it's great opportunity to come and check out some new wines. Most of all, I love that the staff members are quite knowledgable, but that it's not intimidating.
If you're in the area you've got to check it out!
How many times have we been to Mount Vernon? Too many to count. So why on earth had we never been to Spirits before last week?! This is a tragedy we plan to rectify by returning as frequently as possible, which won't be difficult at all considering how pleasant the place is.
We were not looking for anything in particular, simply enjoying the unseasonably warm December weather, so we enjoyed the luxury of wandering from display to display. The selections of beer, wine and (bada boom) spirits are impressive -- not exhaustive, but the owners have taken care to provide both reliable standbys and intriguing new finds, from local to exotic, at all kinds of price points.
One major plus: they are opened on Sundays, which is a rarity around here. The woman who took our order was kind enough to warn us that they were closing in twenty minutes, but when we assured her we could drink a glass of wine in that amount of time, she was happy to serve us and even checked in several times to make sure we were happy with our selections.
By far, however, the most attractive part of the business is the ability to enjoy a glass of wine, plus maybe a snack from the cold case by the door, in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The other patrons were lots of fun, the music wasn't too loud and even the stools were pretty comfortable to stay put awhile (there are couches too, but they were occupied when we were there.) Oh, and it's also probably the only dog-friendly wine bar I've ever visited, which says something about the ownership -- classy but casual. With such excellent service and atmosphere, you can be sure we will be back soon!
I've had so many meetings near this place and finally got to check it out and I was surprised and excited to find out that this place is woman owned!!!
Everything about this little wine shop is adorable! They even allow you to bring food in with you to snack on while sipping your wine.
If you're looking for a place to hold an event like a happy hour or book club, I would most definitely suggest having an event here!
Good wine selection I usually like Malbecs from Argentina but the person working there recommended this one from France. Price point was inexpensive and it is very good! Short walk from my daughters apartment! I'll be back!
Can I just start off by saying this store is my best experience in Baltimore so far? Vickie/Vicky/Vicki is A-Mazing and I've deemed her temporary mother while I'm here. Her selection of wine is superb and she is so incredibly well-educated. The prices were very fair, and while she has a lot of boutique wines, there are a few popular ones here too. Tuesdays are 10% off and there's no corkage fee! You can go, purchase a bottle, and drink it there.
There's Happy Hour as well, which I am ecstatic to check out. Spirits of Mt. Vernon has a wall of liquor as well. Be sure to say hi to Bear when you're there!
Being new to baltimore I haven't heard of this place. Glad I do now, thanks to Alex A. A great location ran by amazingly sweet, genuine people. Vicky, lula, heather and mr. wonderful give you the ultimate experience. This wine shop isn't the usual run of the mill shop with hundreds of generic wines. No, each wine is hand selected by owner and New Yorker Vicky. It's cool to see a few labels of bottles I already own. What can I say, we have good taste. Have a glass, sit and enjoy the atmosphere, the view and the company of locals. Community tables and cozy window seating makes it SO inviting. Free tastings on Fridays! There's also cheese available and beer. I will be coming back! Thanks Vicky !
Vicky is very knowledgeable and passionate about wine. I enjoyed chatting with her. She has a great selection of wines that she was clearly very thoughtful about when choosing. She will make you feel right at home in her shop whether you're a professional or an everyday wine lover. She will help you choose the right wine for your occasion. Highly recommended!
